Kibale Forest National Park is one of the last remaining expanses to comprise both low-lying and montane forests. If you can’t afford the lavish cost of mountain-gorilla tracking, then visiting one of the five habituated groups of chimpanzees here is a very earnest substitute, not to mention a far less economically challenging one.
Kibale is the best place for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. There are 13 species of primates that have been recorded in the park, which is the highest number in Uganda. Aside from chimpanzee, several species can usually be found on the. Birds and butterflies are abundant.
The Kibale National Park – Fort Portal area is one of Uganda’s most rewarding destinations to explore. The park lies close to the tranquil Ndali-Kasenda crater area and within half a day’s drive of the Queen Elizabeth, Rwenzori Mountains and Semuliki National Parks, as well as the Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve.
Kibale Forest National Park is about 760 sq kms in size. It has a very large and varied number of primates. Altogether about thirteen species. These include red, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons and a large number of chimpanzees. Also, the dense rain forest habitat is good to see. The rare birding species in bigodi wetland like: Papyrus Gonolek, White-winged Warbler, White-collared Oliveback and Papyrus Canary.
